Junior Windsurfing Challenge - August 25, 2007 at 2:00

Calling all Novice Windsurfers who want to head for high winds, wide open water, massive chop and Xtreme sailing! and all Senior Windsurfers who want to help our Novices get there!

Join us for the summer's third and final Junior Windsurfing Challenge on Saturday, August 25 at 2:00.

WHAT IS A JUNIOR WINDSURFING CHALLENGE?

It's a convenient way for you Novice-rated board sailors to accomplish your on-the-water and rigging tests on one scheduled afternoon (wind willing!) to become a Junior, so you can start sailing faster boards in a much larger and more challenging area.

Novices, prepare for the challenge!

• Have your membership current, with four hours work signed off in your book for your current term *before* the Challenge (required).

• Take the closed-book Junior written test from the dayleader some other time so you can focus on the on-the-water and rigging tests on Challenge day.

• Have your board skills at super-Novice level! The Challenge will put you on a usual Novice board, but we'll give you a sail that's larger than what you are used to. Then you'll sail a course around buoys, up and down wind at and beyond the windiest (southern) edge of the novice sailing area. Practice in advance by sailing out from the dock to the windy edge of the novice sailing area, up to the restaurant, and back, with some tacks and jibes.

• Be (almost) ready to rig a sail from scratch by yourself. You need to know the names of all the parts of the rig; and the basic rigging procedure - study this well in the CSC Windsurfing Handbook. We'll coach you through the rigging procedure if you haven't done it before.

The Fine Print:

1) Not all Novices will pass the tests and become Juniors; but if you don't pass you can arrange with any senior to test you at any other time.

2) If we don't happen to have enough wind, we won't able to give the sailing test.
