Saturday Morning Fast Track
From CSCWiki
Here's a Senior Project idea for aspiring Senior Candidates -- organize a Fast Track program to run for a number of consecutive Saturdays. Here's the plan:
[edit]
Before You Begin
- Talk to the Rear Commodore (rear_commodore@cal-sailing.org) and to arrange a string of Saturdays. Make sure to check for low tides, etc. and adjust as appropriate.
- Go to an ExComm meeting and get your project approved.
[edit]
Before the Fast Track
- Reserve two dingies for 4 consecutive Saturday mornings during normal lesson times (9-1) for this program. The rest of the dingy fleet is available for the normal Saturday morning first-come first-served program.
- Sign up two students per boat for the program. In order to sign up, students must:
- Have already passed the Junior sailing written exam and their rigging test.
- Have completed their two work hours for the quarter.
- Be able to commit to making all four mornings.
- Sign up one instructor for each boat for each of the 4 weeks. Doesn't have to be the same instructors every week, and instructors only need to show up at the dock at 10am ready to sail. And the organizer can be one of the instructors some weeks.
[edit]
During the Fast Track
Then, for each of the four weeks:
- Students arrive by 9:30 and rig the boat. They should be ready to sail at 10am when the Instructor arrives.
- Students spend 10am - 1pm on the water with their Instructor.
- Students haul and unrig the boat at 1pm if necessary.
This is designed to encourage Instructors to show up by minimizing the amount of non-sailing effort they have to put in. It assumes that students are willing to do a bit of extra work for the guaruntee of dedicated instructors.
