Learn to Plane!
On Wednesday, April 9, 5 PM, Bill Prinzmetal will repeat his
successful speed on the reach windsurfing seminar. To attend, you
must arrive wearing a harness. No exceptions. We will also start
promptly at 5:00. This seminar is intended for the junior
windsurfer who aspires to sail a "short board", sail relaxed in
higher winds, get into the footstraps, etc. Bill will cover the
essentials that you need to sail well in our venue on typical windy
days.
Start of Thursday night JY races: Thursday, April 10 6pm marks the start of the JY15 sailboat races. Be there at 5:30 pm. Excited? Contact Carl Caven, Co-1st Vice, to work on the fleet before then. (Hint: you may not get a spot on a boat if you don't work on them)
Big thanks to Cal Boating: Cal Boating, aka the Department of Boating and Waterways, has funded Cal Sailing Club's safe boating and windsurfing educational programs for the third year in a row. This year's grant includes $15,000 towards new equipment and $1,800 for National Safe Boating Week.
Ashby Shoal Breakfast: Cal Sailing Club will join BASK, the Bay Area Sea Kayakers, for an Ashby Shoal Breakfast Saturday June 7.
This is an event you won't want to miss, unless you like sleeping in on Saturday mornings better than seeing the sun rise over the bay. Fixed rudder boats will have to leave the west dock before 6:30 am, and the last kayak or sketchmobile will have to leave the west dock before 8 am. After that the only way to get to the shoal will be on the few boats that are left in the marina--The scheduled low tide is -1.24 ft at 9:36. Earliest return to the west dock is 1 pm for fixed rudder boats, 11:30 am for kayaks and sketchmobile. This is a potluck gourmet breakfast. Please bring something yummy and dress accordingly.
Four U.S. Sailing Community Sailing Awards:

Windsurfing lockers: CSC has 54 windsurfer storage lockers on the rig area behind the club. These are available through associate memberships ($280/yr, 18' long x 18" wide by 30"tall space, some 42" tall spaces for 1.5 x $280/yr). For more information contact the Windsurfing locker chair.
Thanks to Gary Farber for providing these links for those new (and old) members to access the tide pages.
Tides for:
But don't forget to read the fine print on the tide page. Don't trust the charts. A good sailor should be able to determine the tides by smell.
Know the Tide: The Cal-Sailing Club is located on the South Sailing Basin of the Berkeley Marina. The South Sailing Basin is a protected and shallow area, perfect for learning to sail, but is also subject to low tides that prevent launching of our rescue skiff. Always remember to check the tides before heading down to the club.
Joining the Cal Sailing Club is by far the least expensive way to learn to sail on the San Francisco Bay. It is also one of the best ways to learn to sail anywhere. CSC's first priority is to make sailing on the Bay accessible to a large number of people at the lowest possible cost, consistent with safety.
Whether you are interested in becoming a CSC member, or just want to go on a free sail on the Bay, come down to the Club and take advantage of our next Open House. The San Francisco Bay offers some of the best sailing in the world, and the Cal Sailing Club can provide some of the best opportunities to enjoy it.
