Questions and Answers:

Q: What are the minimum requirements to take the keelboat lesson?
A: Unless specifically noted, a Junior Dinghy rating is required.

Q: Time and place to meet?
A: Students meet at J-dock at 5:00pm on Wednesdays; ready to sail by 5:30pm.

Q: How long is the lesson?
A: The keelboat lesson is typically 3 to 3.5 hours long. Students should return to dock between 8pm and 8:30pm.

Q: What if I am late to the lesson? The gate at J-dock is locked.
A: Please try not to be late. It takes 10-20 minutes to rig a keelboat, before the boat departs the dock. If you wait more than 5-10 minutes to get past the locked gate at J-dock, walk over to the clubhouse and ask for help.

Q: What if I can no longer attend the lesson?
A: Please cancel your signup as soon as you find out. We have student demands, but number of keelboats and instructors are limited. Your cancellation will allow others to take your spot, as opposed to no show.

Q: Dinner after lesson?
A: There is an optional dinner with the crew, instructors, and other CSC club members. Instructors coordinate with students amongst themselves.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear clothes that can get wet - so wear synthetic gym clothes. No jeans or cotton clothes. It is recommended to bring a pair of gloves and wear closed toe shoes. Dress warm in layers. Bring a PFD and fowlies from the club.

Q: Who can I reach out to if I have any questions?
A: Please post your questions on the #keelboat-lessons channel, or DM Liang Chow on Slack.
