Intro Note for David’s Knots Page
You’re singlehanding a keelboat outside the Golden Gate. A towering wave knocks you overboard (in your PFD, of course). Luckily there’s a line trailing in the water from the stern. You grab it and hang on for dear life. But it’s sliding through your hands. What knot should you tie around your waist before it’s too late? Hint: most folks get it wrong.
This and other pressing questions about knots will be answered, mostly correctly, in a new series hosted by Cruising Skipper David Fraser on the Resources page of the CSC website, under “Other Useful Info.” David says it remains to be seen if the effort is useful. But it should be fun and informative.
The series starts with the question: What knot(s) do you use if you want to tie two lines together securely, as in towing? Every couple of weeks we’ll tackle a new topic – next up is: CSC Required Knots. The series will offer text and pictures, plus links to key knot resources. It’s not a “how to tie this,” more of a “what should you tie and what avoid” so you don’t slide away from your boat or stumble over your shoelaces. Enjoy!
